Superstar entertainers Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon remain married after Cannon reportedly refused to sign divorce papers.

Carey and Cannon separated in August 2014, with Cannon then filing for legal separation in December 2014. Now it appears that Cannon isn’t so keen on getting divorced. Carey, who is 46 years old, has been pushing for the couple to finalize its divorce as she looks to get married again. She recently got engaged to James Packer, a 48-year-old billionaire businessman and casino owner from Australia.

Meanwhile, Cannon, who is 35 years old, has reportedly opted not to sign divorce agreement papers on a number of occasions, dating all the way back to last year. According to TMZ, the popular gossip website, Cannon has also refused to explain his reasons for not agreeing to the divorce at this stage of the proceedings. Sources have speculated to the media that Cannon is upset about Carey’s recent engagement to another man.

Carey and Cannon have two children together, so there could potentially be child support and child custody issues that need to be addressed. However, TMZ has reported that the couple long ago worked out a property settlement agreement and arranged for joint custody of their four-year-old twins.

Another interesting wrinkle in Carey’s pending divorce is that Packer, the man to whom she is currently engaged, is going through his own divorce drama. Packer’s second wife, Ericka, filed for legal separation in 2013. The couple has three children together.

The reality is that someone who is going through a divorce, whether it’s a celebrity, a high net worth individual or anyone else, needs a qualified divorce and family law attorney on their side throughout the proceedings.
