Famous Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore recently spoke out about her divorce, calling it her “biggest failure.”

Barrymore was married to Will Kopelman for four years, with the couple ultimately announcing their divorce in April 2016.

When Barrymore appeared on the Netflix talk show “Chelsea,” hosted by her close friend Chelsea Handler, she was confronted with questions about her marriage to Kopelman. At one point, Handler asked Barrymore to state the “biggest failure” in her life. Barrymore responded that her divorce was her biggest failure, saying that divorces can be “so shameful” and observing that it’s difficult to maintain confidence while going through the divorce process.

Interestingly, Barrymore cited her divorce, not her marriage, as the thing she most regretted.

Barrymore’s regrets about the way her marriage ended highlight an issue faced by many spouses as they go through the divorce process and later reflect on how things went so badly in their marriages. The reality is that anyone, no matter how hard they worked to make their marriage last, can feel a sense of responsibility for the end of the marital relationship.

Since feelings of regret and shame can be common while going through a particularly difficult divorce process, it is important to have a support group of friends and family to lean on. During her recent talk show interview, Barrymore said that she has managed to pull herself through her divorce with the help of close friends and family members.

Another important thing to keep in mind when getting divorced is that a knowledgeable divorce lawyer can help to put you at ease by handling the thorny legal questions and making sure that you get exactly what you are entitled to, which may include spousal support, child support and child custody, depending on the exact circumstances of your divorce.
