Attorney Howard Mendelson, of Davis & Mendelson, is scheduled to speak at two seminars in December. Both seminars will handle the same topic, titled “Know Special Education Requirements and Procedures to a T.”
The first seminar will be held on Monday, December 10 from 9am-4:30pm at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center of Toms River at 815 Route 37 West in Toms River, NJ. Attorneys who attend this seminar can obtain 7.20 continuing legal education credits in New Jersey. If you come from New York you can obtain 7.00 and 6.00 if you are licensed in Pennsylvania. IACET can earn 0.60 and NJ Teacher Education Credit of 6.00 can also be obtained.
The second seminar will be held on Thursday, December 13 from 9am-4:30pm at the Holiday Inn Philadelphia-Cherry Hill at 2175 Marlton Pike W in Cherry Hill, NJ. Attendees of this seminar will be able to obtain the same credits in the legal and education fields mentioned earlier.
There are four formats available for the seminar that all cost $359. They include attending the seminar, pre-ordering OnDemand audio, pre-ordering an audio download and pre-ordering an audio CD.
Description of the Program
The program being offered by Mr. Mendelson is a comprehensive one that spells out the requirements for schools under the special education laws. It will also dig into due process, LRE, and FAPE. Case studies involving mistakes made by schools will be presented. Experienced attorney faculty will provide attendees tips for compliance and how to properly evaluate students, create IEPs, handle proceedings for due process, making decisions on placement and handling issues with behavior.

- Remain updated on court decisions that affect requirements for special education
- Review the responsibilities under the IDEA, Section 504, ADA and other laws for both public and private schools
- Learn how to avoid common mistakes made in creating IEPs
- Perform a walkthrough of the due process procedure
- Learn how to prevent actions of school personnel that could lead to the school facing disciplinary actions

Compare the traditional Discrepancy Model to the Response to Intervention model when it comes to determining the eligibility for a student when placing them in services for special education
Learn about the requirements for placement decisions set forth by Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) and Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE)

The seminars being hosted by Mr. Mendelson have been labeled as basic-to-intermediate and they should be attended by anyone who works with children who have special needs and are in a school environment. Those who should attend include any of the following:
